About the single
“We live in a world where women are still not safe.
Where survival is demanded, and protection is denied.
And yet, it is clear: every woman deserves to be free. Every girl deserves to be safe. This is not a question, not a choice; it is our right.
Çenek (“girl” in Zazaki Kurdish) is the fourth and final single from Meral Polat’s upcoming album MEYDAN. Written as a poem to every girl, to the young ones finding their way, and to the girl living within every woman, the song is a powerful affirmation of freedom and self-determination.
Musically, it draws from an eclectic mix including American Funk, Somali Rock & Roll, Kurdish Dengbej. The resulting groove drives with infectious energy and creates space for a song of unabashed feminine resistance, tenderness, and solidarity.
This is reinforced by a chorus of 28 women and feminist men who close the piece chanting: “Strong girl, you are free, we have your back, little girl.”
At its heart, Çenek is a hymn to every girl’s right to choose her own path, a celebration of courage, autonomy, and collective strength.”
